Walk Alton

Walk Alton is a community organisation, working to develop walking facilities in the Alton area, both for recreation and to support local initiatives to improve people’s health.

In 2019 Walk Alton succeeded in getting Alton reaccredited as a “Walkers are Welcome” town. Affiliation to this nationwide network highlights Alton as a walking destination, supports development of walking facilities for the benefit of local people and visitors, and demonstrates that Alton is a town that welcomes walkers. It also helps to promote tourism and bring new footfall to the Alton area.

Alton is at the gateway to the South Downs National Park, the town and its surrounding villages offer a great choice of short and medium – length walks, plus access to longer walks such as the Writers’ Way,  St Swithun’s Way or the Alton Six Hills Walk.
