A self-taught designer, she crafts her own stage costumes, shaping a visual identity as bold as her sound. From global stages to The Lioness Kingdom she built in Funsi, her work champions independence, cultural pride, and a belief that every community deserves to rise.
Her collaboration with Slovenian classical guitarist Miha Petric unveils a raw, soul-stirring dimension to her artistry. The duo, who first performed in Ljubljana in 2019, create a seamless musical synergy that transforms Wiyaala’s jubilant all action style into profound musical ballads. Miha’s intricate and expressive guitar work with classically disciplined Slovenian folk phrasing complements Wiyaala’s bold vocal clarity.
Wiyaala uses this unplugged setting to connect deeply with the audience, sharing humour and cultural stories to interpret the meanings of her songs, which are primarily sung in her native languages of Sissali, Waale and Dagari, and sometimes in colonial legacy English.
