By the end of the course you will be able to
• Cut out a 43cm cushion pattern (provided)
• Sew a basic seam.
• Create and apply an applique motif. (This could be a letter or a basic shape, i.e. square, diamond or other simple shape)
• Make piping if required.
• Insert a zip
About the Course
Who is this course for: Beginners with some sewing experience.
Previous Knowledge or Experience: Basic sewing skills
How will I learn: Follow a demonstration and handouts to make piping and applique. Also, zip insertion.
How will I be assessed: Self-assessment on completion of sewing techniques
For this session you will need to buy/bring: Sewing machine in working order, with foot controller, presser feet, bobbins, small screwdriver. Fabric to cut 2 x 43cm squares of fabric (approx. ½ metre of 115 cm wide fabric) Thread (to match) spare machine needles, pins, small fabric scissors, fabric cutting scissors, tape measure, tailors chalk, notebook, and pens / pencil.
If piping is required, 2.3 metres of 7/8” bias binding, (either to match or contrast to the fabric)
2.3 metres of cord size 3mm.
Contrast fabric (to make the applique) 25cm square, also matching thread.
Drawing in full size, of the applique motif you want to apply.
Cushion pad 40cm size.
Zip 36cm length.
