Directed by Frank Capra in 1946, the film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, who has given up his personal dreams to help others in his community. George is saved from ending it all on Christmas Eve by his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence shows George the lives he’s touched and what the world would be like without him.
Join us at the Allen Gallery café for a drink from 6.30pm. The film screening will start at 7.00pm and there will be a short interval.
Thanks to a brilliant volunteer team we are delighted to be able to run a monthly film programme in partnership with The Memories of the Palace Cinema Oral History Project. Do drop them a line if you have your own memories to share of cinema-going in Alton.
Only 32 tickets per screening, tickets can be purchased online or via the gallery front desk. All activities are on the ground floor and fully wheelchair accessible.
It’s a Wonderful Life is part of the Allen Gallery's ongoing community programme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our film programme includes nominations from our local community as well as specialist screenings on key themes in our collections and exhibitions, reflecting a wide range of stories and artistic experience.
