Recognise the tactile nature of this medium, its potential and restrictions through ‘hands on’ activity
Learn and apply the language used in sculpture from materials to technical processes to application.
Create your sculpture charts and records to use correct measurements for creating scaled models (Marquette)
Recognise some key fundamentals to creating a sculpture from beginning to end.
Identify the value of using mathematics in all elements of your work from compositional structures, geometry in defining shapes and ratios in understanding life size to actual model proportions.
Identify the need for an armature (sculpture support)
Identify how the repetitive movement and hand positioning helps lower anxiety
Describe how sensory nature of sculpture provides positive feedback to our brains
This is a ‘hands on’ course, so the learner will have opportunity to create their own sculpture in oil-based clay.
In addition, whether its technical terminology or the mystique around the meaning or methodology used to describe the process of creating a sculpture, this course will fill in any knowledge gaps. From the new potential sculptor to those with more experience, the opportunity to fully engage with the tactile nature of the materials used, experiment in a friendly noncritical group and walk away with a better understanding of how to create and develop your art using clay.
We will use oil-based clay, which never dries, so the sculpture will not need to be fired or go through a drying process. This means that the sculpture will remain mouldable to the touch throughout and after the process.
