Course take place on 2 consecutive Saturdays, Saturday 8 and 15 January from 10am-2.30pm each Saturday
To introduce the student to setting up their sewing machine and the stitch functions. basic sewing techniques, and seam types, zip insertions, faced edges, and making hems and buttonholes
Who is this course for: Beginners, but also those with some sewing experience.
Previous knowledge/experience required: None needed. (You will be supplied with pre-cut fabric for the exercises)
For the first session you will need to buy/bring:
Sewing machine in working order, with foot controller, presser feet, bobbins, small screwdriver. Thread (any colour) spare machine needles, pins, small fabric scissors, tape measure, tailors chalk, notebook and pens / pencil. Any colour of the following. 50cm of ½” bias binding, an exposed metal teeth zip 5” long, a normal 5” plastic teeth zip, an invisible zip 6” long (if longer we can shorten)
How will I learn: Follow a demonstration and handouts to make example samples of techniques.
How will I be assessed: Self-assessment on completion of sewing techniques Progression routes: make a cushion with a motif and zip
This course is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+ Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have
