Alton Organ Society hosts monthly organ concerts from October through to May.
These concerts provide an opportunity to listen to live classical organ music played by high calibre organists who have a national and international repute.
Since September 2002, Andrew Lumsden has been Director of Music at Winchester Cathedral. Under his directorship, the Choir has made a number of recordings and broadcasts. The boy and girl choristers have taken part in BBC Proms seasons, singing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under Sir Simon Rattle in 2014 and with the Danish National Orchestra and Fabio Luisi in 2015. The lay clerks and boy choristers visited Rome and Florence in 2017. Under Andrew’s direction, the choir took part in two Papal Masses with the Sistine Chapel Choir and gave a concert in the Duomo in Florence.
Andrew continues to give organ recitals in this country and abroad, and as conductor of the Waynflete Singers, he works regularly with major orchestras including Florilegium, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. In 2015, he spent two months in Australia and New Zealand, giving a number of organ recitals and masterclasses and directing choirs, and returned to Auckland in 2018 to conduct an RSCM course. Whilst there, he was the first overseas player to give one of the inaugural recitals on the new organ in Auckland Cathedral.
Please note that there will be no refreshments being served due to Covid-19
