Author Bee Rowlatt will share her journey exploring Wollstonecraft's extraordinary legacy, and the disturbing truth behind her erasure from history. Find out why we owe so much to this pioneering woman, and how her legacy is being celebrated at last.
As part of our Writing Women’s Rights Programme, the Library will be open to view beforehand, where a first edition of Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Woman is on display.
Tickets: £12, Friends: £10. Free for University of Southampton students.
To book, call us on 01420 541010 or book online here (subject to Eventbrite booking fee).
About the Speaker
Bee Rowlatt, writer and journalist, is VOGUE India’s “latest girl crush and undeniable star of the show.” Her book In Search of Mary, inspired by the life of Mary Wollstonecraft, won the UK’s “Real Life Reads” 2016 and made the Independent’s Best Biographies list. It was featured on BBC Meet the Author, PRI’s The World, and described by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen as “terrific – quite unlike anything I’ve read before.”
Bee co-wrote the best-selling Talking about Jane Austen in Baghdad and is one of the writers in Virago’s Fifty Shades of Feminism. Public speaking appearances include Jaipur Litfest, Edinburgh Festival, Southbank Women of the World festival, Hay Festival, and British Council literary events in Iraq, Norway, India, Mexico, Russia and Palestine.
