Know your Phaeton from your Curricle

Know your Phaeton from your Curricle is an illustrated journey through travel in Jane Austen's time from the state of the roads to the various carriages available to both her characters and her family and friends.

The talk will allow readers of Jane Austen to understand the subtle and sometimes not so subtle observations of her characters by the modes of transport she offers them.

Hazel Mills is a retired science teacher and a founding member of the Jane Austen Society cambridge group and, until her move to Denmark, was a regional speaker for the Society.
