The Battle of Alton has now been moved to 2021.
Alton Town Council and the English Civil War Society stage a large scale re-enactment of the ‘Battle of Alton’ which took place during The English Civil War.
This is truly an event not to be missed, with hundreds of English Civil War soldiers parading from the Assembly Rooms on the High Street at 1:30pm. The march will finish in Flood Meadows, where at 2:30pm an impressive battle display will take place with pikes, muskets and cannon fire.
Following the main battle the event will move to St Lawrence Churchyard, where bullet holes from the actual battle are still visible in the church door. A smaller skirmish will take place at 4pm depicting the famous ‘Fall of St Lawrence.’
Running alongside the re-enactments there will be an English Civil War living history display in St Lawrence Churchyard open from 10am until 4pm.
The Battle of Alton re-enactment will be staged on both Sunday 30 and Monday 31 May 2021, giving visitors two opportunities to enjoy the event alongside everything the town of Alton has to offer.
Sunday 30 to Monday 31 May 2021
